“Being modern" is one of the most important indicators of life in contemporary culture that this concept is defined as types of consumption and how citizens live, that is why the "modern living" is also one of the main concerns of the people to do their habits and behavior and training of their children. Regardless of this that “Being modern" is the result of selection of the person or a group of people, culture of people tries to adjust to his or their habit. Now, the question that arises is that how “Being modern" is reproduce in the society of Iran and what group is determined by and by whom are looking for?
“Being modern" " which is defined as a superior culture to the community, affected the cultural life of the people without this question whether this culture, it is a cultural thing? Of course, it seems one of the most important features of the mass society is that no thought or question is arose about a used thing. Popular culture that the mass society produced it, is the routine culture of people in consumerism and debauch. This culture, which is distributed by the mass media, call it as the culture industry. Basically, this kind of culture tends to fill leisure time and income of the market. People pay for something that they enjoy it and need it. Of course this pleasure and need also must define.
The market determines that what cultural goods is essential for people and contrary to what is said, No man acts in the market. But perhaps the big capitalists are the ones who determine “Being modern", that it means wearing torn jeans. The mass society before it was completely opposite to this theoretical coverage. But when the merchants of wealth by media tools and advertising showed a goods as “modern”, so the people are not a society that elected them. But people are elected in an iron cage that choose only certain models that capitalists wanted them. Even if this model has a thousand different forms, again all people choose one of the capitalist’s choice.
For “Being modern" " some habit become ordinary in the people’s lifestyle that as a high value never be questioned. Grill hair, torn jeans, iPhone, T-shirts with a particular brand, branded watches, wear support, traveling in the passage, and speak Latin words and many other behaviors that can be observed in uptown. Currently, living in uptown had been become a particular culture and also placed as a model for the society of Iran and especially for the youth. Whenever we speak about the demands of people, the people's desires, tastes and choices of the people, unconsciously culture of people who living in the uptown Take into consideration in the mind of society Such that we perceive the powerful discourse that dominate on the culture of Iran.
This dominant discourse that is antithetical to the goals of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and the religious people culture, is not created very fast. Maybe its origin return to the Qajar and Pahlavi era, But surely the uncertainty was created by the Islamic Revolution of Iran. Unfortunately, with the passing of the discourses of the 70 and 80 solar, this discourse had effect even on the government. Social phenomena such as unconventional Models which young men and women wear, too much attention to the rapper in his obit, named white married on the living man and woman without marriage, protests to the Islamic legal provisions and also Disagree with the its teachings are such demands of living uptown Which is imposed to people. These action also is followed by the groups at overseas.
Other cultures and youth in the community also try to match with this discourse until categorize in the “being modern” group. Today, we see many contradictions in the behavior of some of our community's youth, Behaviors which show their interest to two opposing discourses and yet the conflict is not understood by the young themselves. For example, hairstyles of rappers and Satanist that is used by Muslim youth who participate in day-Quds Day rally!!
This discourse contrasts will extend in lifestyle and coverage and will be caused the improper dressed and bad coverage in the country. While Iranian Muslim youth have no intention to hand in choosing their clothing, But that they are behaving as the same as people who living in uptown which are likely with the dominant discourse in the West. The people in uptown act as an opinion leaders that translate “Being modern” with the wishes of Western civilization and then will construct the culture of the society. This position is marked by their ability to exploit the media and "the say power". It seems that each subculture that its access to the media or has more courage in making its demands, Apart from its small quantity, it is seen more and automatically rest of the people are consumed their messages especially if they have higher economic class and relatively have higher social and educational class.
To prevent the spread this culture and behavioral differences in the society of Iran, two main approaches can be followed along the education and proselytism. First, education and training due to thought and wisdom from childhood and adolescence; the leader of Iran have described this necessity for teachers and educators: The second task which is more important than that, is teaching the meditation. Our children learn to think – proper and rational thought - and guide to think right. Improper thought makes a society miserable in the long run; Thinking must be institutionalized in society. So you see, when we say about the martyr Motahari, not only Knowledge of martyr Motahari is Important, but also his thinking is really important. If anyone had thought, he can solve important issues of the time with this mentality. If our young, our scholar, our scientists, can think proper ,can raises tens or hundreds new issues and answer them. So we must think proper for using the science.
Second, comprehensive training media literacy for optimal utilization of the media and playing role in the world of communications. Media literacy causes that audience perceive the ability to understand the message and intended of sender and easily are not under the power of media messages. Also play a role in the new social media causes that culture of people in uptown disturb. This action maybe create the opposite idea with this bad culture. So basically, the means of "being modern" will be reviewed in thought and desire of the society.
